Are you Capacity Market Auction ready?

It’s that time of year again where attentions turn to the capacity market, with a flurry of activities over the coming months leading up to the T-1 & T-4 auctions held on 2nd and 9th March 2021, respectively. The Capacity Market was introduced by The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as part of the Electricity Market Reform programme to ensure the future security of our electricity supply. Prequalification closed in September 2020, with a total of 4.4 GW (de-rated capacity) of projects prequalifying, or conditionally pre-qualifying, for the 2021-22 (T-1) auction and 53 GW for the 2024-25 (T-4) auction. Scottish Government Hydrogen Assessment

We read with interest the recent Scottish Hydrogen Assessment hot on the heels of the coverage of hydrogen in the Energy White Paper. Since TNEI’sdelivery of the UK’s first co-located hydrogen and wind demonstration project in Rotherham some time ago, hydrogen technology and applications have come into increasingly sharper focus for our clients and partners. The Scottish Government’s assessment sets out ambitious targets for developing green hydrogen generating capacity; taking just 2 more years to hit the 5GW mark targeted for 2030 in the UK Energy White Paper. The assessment provides useful analysis of the current state of play and comprehensively makes the case for development of hydrogen as a key part of the energy transition. Final Consenting Amendments at Drakelow Renewable Energy Centre as Development Continues to Progress Well

TNEI originally helped obtain planning permission for the under-construction energy from waste plant at Drakelow in 2015 having coordinated the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and planning application process. Since then various amendments to the consented design have been required as a result of the detailed engineering design process. TNEI have enabled these having successfully worked with Vital Energi to update environmental assessments and obtain permission for non-material and material amendments working closely with planning officers at Derbyshire District Council. A new planning permission has been granted which incorporates the changes that have been made and progress onsite throughout 2020 has been excellent. TNEI appointed to assist with Africa’s first IPP floating solar photovoltaic project

TNEIhas been appointed by Qair (previously Quadran International), a French developer, to perform simulation studies being part of its electrical network design and ensure grid code compliance for their 5.8 MW Seysun floating solar PV project being constructed on a salt water lagoon in Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles. This will be the world’s largest floating PV project to be installed in a saltwater environment when it is completed by the end of this year. This will be Africa’s first IPP floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) project: https://www.clintonfoundation.org/press-releases/floating-solar-energy-project-seychelles-moves-forward. Qair secured the project through a government tender in 2018 and the electricity will be sold under a 25-year PPA to the Public Utilities Corporation. The entire generation capacity on the island of Mahé is roughly only ~76 MW which is generated by mainly diesel power generators as well as a 6 MW wind power plant that was commissioned in 2013.
