A day at the capital: Scotland’s EIA Conference

Florence Usher, a Technical Consultant in our E&E team recently attended Scotland’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Conference which was hosted in Edinburgh on 2nd October.  Here is her event summary: ‘The EIA Conference was an engaging and insightful day which brought together professionals involved in the assessment of impacts for new development projects. Each speaker introduced a different aspect of impact assessment, with various opportunities to interact with technical experts and decision makers alike, in both the energy sector that TNEI works in, and also in wider planning sectors. In particular, it was interesting to understand the fundamental procedures that the Planning and Environmental Appeals Division follow throughout their decision making process for energy developments, and learn more about EIA Case Law and its practical relevance to ongoing projects. RE+ 2025: Clean Energy’s Largest Stage

From September 8–11, Las Vegas hosted RE+ 2025, North America’s largest clean energy event. Organised by SEPA (Smart Electric Power Alliance) and SEIA (Solar Energy Industries Association), the conference brought together more than 40,000 professionals and 1,350 exhibitors, filling both the Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum. The scale and energy of the event underscored its role as the industry’s premier gathering. Policy took centre stage, with debates on how U.S. regulatory changes and tariff policies are reshaping project economics. While challenges such as shifting incentives and trade uncertainty remain, the overall mood was optimistic—most attendees agreed that clean energy’s momentum is now irreversible. Key discussions highlighted advances in energy storage, grid integration, falling solar costs, and “smart” hardware innovations. The TNEI team used the opportunity to connect with clients, partners, and even competitors, while also exploring ways to expand European relationships into the U.S. market. A recurring theme in conversations

Pinballing through the ‘Big Smoke’, Chris, Ryan, and Ben spent three days visiting client offices to discuss project progress, explore any market concerns and where future time and energy would be focused, and review whether there were any further ways that TNEI could support in the future. A key theme raised on several occasions was grid reform and all its associated key issues! It was clear that the need to have applications for consent submitted to support grid application is a key consideration for progressing renewable energy projects. A wide breadth of clients were visited, including those requiring TNEI support for due diligence work, noise assessments, battery projects and also electric vehicles, and solar schemes. The team also explored the topic of
