The Distributed ReStart project (formerly known as Black Start from DER) is a Network Innovation Competition funded project that aims to recommend technical, organisational and commercial solutions to create market access for distributed energy resources (DERs) to participate. This will increase competition in the market and deliver reductions in both cost and carbon emissions. Black Start is the process of restoring power to consumers and restarting the whole of the electricity system, in the event of a blackout. It is envisaged this project will demonstrate a world first ““ coordinating a bottom-up approach from distribution networks to transmission level to provide a safe and effective Black Start service. With the implementation of Engineering Recommendation (EREC) G99,the application process has remained largely the same for most generation sites. EREC G99 came into force on the 27 April 2019 replacing the previous EREC G59 regime.Existing generation sites that have been commissioned under the EREC G59 regime are still valid and do not need to re-apply. If additional units are added to the site, these new units must comply to G99 but will be considered separately to the G59 commissioned units.Distribution Network Operator (DNO) licence condition SLC15 has not changed. Chris brings over 24 years of experience in the energy sector including experience in project management, power system studies, grid code compliance, power system and substation design, protection and control, electrical applications and verification. His experience includes team management and the delivery of complex multi-discipline worldwide technical projects in transmission and distribution planning, design and analysis, HVDC design, AC/DC protection and system studies, substation design, cable assessments, cost benefit analysis and EMC compliance.
