Noise Impact Assessment (NIA) to support a PPC Part A permit application
TNEI has been commissioned to undertake an environmental Noise Impact Assessment (NIA) in order to support the PPC Part A permit application for a Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) process plant in Perthshire. The SRF process is an advanced fuel preparation process which takes fine residual waste from existing recycling facilities that is currently land filled. After drying, the material is processed to remove over-sized waste and separation of all ferrous and non-ferrous metals prior to shredding and baling. The NIA comprises two main elements; firstly, the compilation of a comprehensive noise source inventory and an assessment against BAT (best available techniques). The inventory will be compiled using both manufacturer supplied noise and test data and on site noise level measurements. Secondly, an assessment of noise levels received at the nearest noise sensitive receptors will be undertaken through a series of operational noise level measurements at the receptors and a comparison

IET Manchester Network Annual Dinner
Last week a few of us enjoyed a pleasant evening at the IET Manchester Network Annual dinner. Rachel Hodges, the MD, explains a little more: “We were there as guests of the IET and Manchester University as recognition of our status as significant employers in the industry in the region. It was good to see a good cross section of those active in Engineering and Technology in the Manchester area that are involved in interesting projects in both power and “‘non-power’ fields. There were also some very good discussions during the night on how we can inspire young people into Engineering and to encourage women in their careers in the industry. I will personally take away from the night a few more ideas on how I can get involved with the IET and the STEM network at a local level and will be looking to see how we can support

TNEI wins award at EWEA offshore 2015
TNEI’s Gordon McFadzean was selected as a poster award winner for his posterThe potential benefits of direct-to-shore mvdc connections for offshore wind, at EWEA offshore conference on Wednesday 11th March.Gordon’s poster displayedrecent TNEI research into innovative medium voltage direct current (MVDC) connections for offshore wind, completed in partnership with Scottish Power and Scottish Enterprise.
