TNEI provides consultancy support to international energy investor for acquisition of 230MW Irish wind power portfolio

Specialist independent energy consultancy, TNEI, has provided technical grid and environmental due diligence for international investor, CGN Europe Energy S.A.S. (CGNEE), in order to support their acquisition of a large wind power portfolio from Irish renewable energy and energy storage organisation, Gaelectric. The portfolio of wind farms, of which seven are located in Northern Ireland, and seven in the Republic of Ireland, has assets comprising ten operating wind farms with a total output of 184MW; with a further four wind farms generating a total of 46MW that will commence operations by mid-2017. These wind farms will produce enough energy to meet the electricity needs of around 120,000 homes, offsetting around 250,000 tonnes of CO2. TNEI partnered with wind energy consultancy, K2 Management on this project and the combined efforts of the two companies ensured CGNEE was able to successfully value and acquire the portfolio. TNEI gains 15 planning consents for the construction of Hydrogen Refuelling Stations across the UK

Specialist, independent energy consultancy, TNEI has successfully achieved 15 planning consents across 11 sites throughout the UK for the construction of Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) on behalf of ITM Power PLC, a manufacturer of integrated hydrogen energy systems. TNEI’s experience and expertise in this field has enabled a smooth passage through the planning consent process. The most recent planning permission secured on behalf of ITM Power was for a refuelling station in South Bucks District Council at the Shell Filling Station, Beaconsfield. The HRS will be integrated into the existing fuel forecourt. This HRS will form part of a project with Shell to construct these stations within a number of their forecourts, which, in turn, forms part of the H2ME project and the OLEV HRS Infrastructure Grants Scheme, co-funded by the FCH JU and the UK government. TNEI and Visualwind unveil pioneering smart monitoring equipment

Specialist energy consultancy, TNEI, has joined forces with expert technology provider, Visualwind, to develop an innovative noise monitoring solution. The WindComply Noise Module will be used exclusively by TNEI to provide smarter noise monitoring services. The self-powered modules automatically transfer noise data, rain data and battery health data to the wind farm supervision platform, WindSync for storage and analysis by TNEI’s team of acoustic specialists. The automation of wind farm noise monitoring is especially beneficial during lengthy compliance monitoring surveys where accurate noise, wind and SCADA data are analysed together during monitoring campaigns. There is an ever-increasing requirement to undertake noise compliance monitoring at wind energy generation sites to satisfy planning conditions, or in response to complaints from wind farm neighbours. TNEI launches strategic new African office in Cape Town

Specialist energy consultancy, TNEI has opened its first international office in the strategic location of Cape Town in South Africa. As with many African countries, South Africa has suffered a power crisis in recent years, with demand exceeding available supply, resulting in rolling scheduled power cuts. The country has a population of almost 53 million people and electricity has traditionally been supplied by coal, but there is an emerging surge in renewable energy, thanks to the government’s renewables target of 17.8GW by 2030 and successful rollout of four rounds of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) Programme. With many existing clients and projects across Africa and the Middle East, this new office will provide a hub from which TNEI can offer its power systems and renewables consultancy expertise. We are very excited to announce that the Management Team in TNEI have made arrangements for TNEI to be divested from Petrofac following a Management Buyout. This was completed on 1st April 2016. TNEI was purchased by Petrofac in 2010 to provide specialist knowledge and capability in the Offshore Wind sector and we have supported Petrofac in gaining contracts for HVAC and HVDC offshore substation projects in the UK and Germany, giving them an excellent position going forward. TNEI and Petrofac will continue to work together on these types of projects, building on the relationships that have been established. As TNEI was previously independent and Petrofac have given TNEI a large amount of autonomy over the years, we do not expect this change to have a significant impact on the way that we operate and we are excited about the opportunities that come with being a completely independent specialist consultancy

DS3: Re-powering the Republic

‚¬235 million every year. That’s the amount which EirGrid, the system operator in Ireland, will be able to spend on balancing services when the “‘Delivering a Secure, Sustainable Electricity System’ or “‘DS3’ programme is implemented. At almost four times the current spend (‚¬60m), this will open up new revenue streams for renewable generation, conventional plants, and emerging technologies like energy storage. Ireland has a legally binding target of 16% renewable energy generation by 2020, and currently achieves around 8%. This also covers heat and transport, but renewable electricity will be critical to achieving this, and there is a separate target of 40% by 2020. However, the annual build rate of renewable generation will need to increase from an average of 180MW per year to at least 250MW per year.
