Mining and drilling developments require specialist technical, engineering, environmental, community engagement and planning expertise that we are keen to deliver through this tie up. DerbyshireCounty Council have approved Future Earth Energy’s Drakelow Renewable Energy Centre on the site of the former Drakelow C Power Station, south of Burton on Trent, Derbyshire. The application received unanimous support from councillors with only one objection received from the local community during the consultation process. TNEI provided support to Future Earth Energy throughout the project in the form of grid connection assessment by specialists within our Power Systems Team, EIA coordination and management, planning support and application submission, specialist noise assessment, community engagement support and environmental permit preparation. The envisaged timetable for the next Contracts for Difference auction lead to a challenging programme for delivery of the EIA and planning application. The project was delivered through maintenance of a close working relationship with Derbyshire County Council and effective management of the project team. TNEI Services have just completed a series of studies on behalf of ORE Catapult into Marine Energy Electrical Architectures. Three reports have been produced that take a detailed look at marine energy converter components and how these place constraints on how a multi device array can be implemented. The first report consists of a landscape map and a literature review. The second is a review of previous studies on the subject while the third report provides four alternate array architectures that can be deployed depending on the project and device type. Pengfei Wang has joined TNEI as a graduate consultant to work in our Power Systems & Technology (PST) Group based in Manchester. Prior to joining us, Pengfei was providing technical support to the Customer Led Network Revolution (CLNR) project, which is the largest smart grid project in the UK, funded by Ofgem’s Low Carbon Network Fund. Within the CLNR project, Pengfei carried out voltage control and power flow management studies with different smart grid solutions, such as distribution network voltage optimization, demand side response and electrical energy storage. He delivered technical reports and published academic papers based on the findings from the CLNR project. Pengfei also has experience on distribution network overcurrent protection coordination and protection relay certification. Pengfei will work on a diverse range of technical consultancy projects with the PST team in Manchester.

James Hollender has joined TNEI as a Principal Civil Consultant. James is a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 15 years experience as an Engineer and Project Manager. For the last eleven years his work has focussed on renewable energy development and construction, particularly feasibility studies, Civil Engineering design and Project Management. Rachel Hodges, TNEI’s Managing Director, said “James brings with him not only a wealth of experience but also a whole realm of new opportunities for TNEI. Our Planning & Environmental and Power Systems Groups have been working together more and more to deliver energy projects from initial feasibility to detailed design but adding in James’ skills allows us to provide a more rounded service to our clients and support them more effectively particularly when it comes to due diligence, construction management and substation layouts.
