Graduate Consultants on Tour!

TNEI’s annual Graduate Induction Week is the foundation for our Graduate Training Programme and the commencement of the lifelong learning opportunity that TNEI provides.

This year’s event kicked off in Manchester with the Annual New Starter Day and a warm welcome from CEO, Nigel Tate.  The day provided the opportunity for our new arrivals from across the company to meet at TNEI’s Head Office in Manchester. Visitors took part in a variety of sessions providing a broader understanding of our technical teams, our Wellbeing & Inclusion Group, Climate Action Forum and Charity Committee, alongside an introduction from Employee Ownership Representatives.

Building on from the New Starter Day, the Graduate Induction Week is a road trip of learning around our UK offices. Sessions commenced with the IPSA team showcasing the “Simply Powerful” tagline in action by engaging graduates in a hackathon to develop an IPSA functionality—covering everything from product research to deployment and support—and benchmarking their work against internal standards.

Our graduates then made their way to Newcastle where they were provided with engaging experiences including a task where graduates had to mitigate noise from a gas engine (a hairdryer!) using the very latest acoustics materials (from the stationery cupboard!). Another task saw graduates having to find and rank sites for new battery energy storage systems.

Next stop Glasgow, current TNEI Graduates demonstrated their TNEI journeys so far. The team ran a competitive game of Power Systems based Articulate! There were even some sneaky Glaswegian words snuck in there. The game ended with our winners taking home the top prizes, followed by an evening of bowling!

With regular evaluation and self-reflection throughout the week, the Graduate Consultants provided their Line Managers with their key takeaways from the week, how they intend to imbed the learning received, whilst describing where they see their next areas for development.

The aim of the Graduate Training Programme is to equip our Graduate Consultants with the skills required to become well-rounded Consultants. Following TNEI’s graduate induction week, Graduate Consultants then go on to attend a series of training sessions that develop social/personal abilities and technical skills in line with TNEI’s core values.
