STATUS:  37.5 hours per week, Permanent.

In this role, you’ll work on a wide portfolio of power system studies—from load flow, fault level and dynamic analysis for grid connection, power quality, network planning and system analysis for transmission and distribution networks. You’ll contribute to real-world solutions that support renewable integration, network resilience and the transition to net zero.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Strong experience in power system modelling and analysis, including dynamic or transient studies, protection or earthing design
  • Hands‑on experience using IPSA, PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD, CDEGS, SKM and ETAP or similar tools
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills, with confidence engaging directly with clients
  • A proactive approach to problem‑solving and delivering high‑quality technical output

THE POSITION

This role combines responsibilities across TNEI’s Connections and Networks teams, delivering technical consultancy services across power system modelling, grid connection, and network analysis. You will contribute to complex studies such as load flow, fault level, dynamic modelling, power quality, protection coordination, earthing and EMT/RMS modelling.

You will also support client engagement, proposals, and represent TNEI within the industry, contributing to thought leadership and innovation.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Delivery

  • Deliver high‑quality power system studies and technical outputs
  • Conduct modelling and analysis using PowerFactory, IPSA, PSSE, PSCAD or similar tools
  • Prepare and review technical reports, ensuring clarity and accuracy
  • Support and lead proposals, bids and feasibility stages

Project and Team Leadership

  • Manage consultancy projects including planning, resourcing and risk management
  • Mentor junior consultants and support skills development within the team

Client Interaction

  • Engage confidently with clients, building trusted relationships and delivering value
  • Represent TNEI at conferences, events and technical forums

REQUIREMENTS

Essential requirements include: 

  • Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong experience in power system analysis, modelling and reporting
  • Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, IPSA, PSSE, PSCAD or similar tools
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Desirable requirements:  

  • Postgraduate degree in electrical engineering
  • Python or scripting for automation/modelling
  • Experience in consultancy and commercial awareness
  • Knowledge of UK energy regulation, HV design and asset management
