Principal Consultant Andy Birchby will be presenting: An enhanced method of filtering wind farm noise during baseline measurements.
Setting reliable wind farm noise limits depends on understanding the true background sound environment — but this becomes challenging when existing turbines are already operating nearby. In his presentation, Andrew Birchby will explore a practical enhancement to established Institute of Acoustics guidance, showing how targeted monitoring close to operational turbines can improve the accuracy of baseline noise assessments and reduce the risk of overly cautious limits. Drawing on the principles of Supplementary Guidance Note 5 and real-world project experience, the session will offer delegates a clear, applied overview of the method, its benefits, its limitations and how it can support more robust decision-making for neighbouring wind farm developments, extensions and repowering projects.
Specialist Consultant Jim Singleton will be presenting: A Good Practice Guide to the Assessment of Noise from BESS and Solar PV Developments.
As BESS and solar PV developments continue to grow across the UK, operational noise is becoming an increasingly important planning, environmental and commercial consideration. While noise from these technologies was once often underestimated, key components such as cooling systems, inverters and transformers can produce noticeable sound levels, creating challenges for developers, operators, manufacturers and suppliers. In his presentation, Specialist Consultant Jim Singleton will introduce the IOA Renewable Energy Advisory Group’s consultation draft Good Practice Guide for assessing noise from BESS and solar PV developments, highlighting its key themes and encouraging attendees to contribute feedback that will help shape the final guidance.
