New specialists boost TNEI’s Earthing offering

Specialist independent energy consultancy, TNEI, is delighted to welcome Etienne du Preez and Craig McGlone to its South Africa and Manchester offices.

Based in the TNEI Cape Town office, Etienne joins TNEI as a Senior Consultant, following Senior Electrical Engineer roles at AECOM and Eskom. Etienne works within our Power System Team, and has 8 years experience within the power generation industry. Etienne is primarily focused on power system studies, including load flow analysis, fault study analysis, power loss calculations, power transfer capability studies and grid code compliance studies (reactive power capability, LVRT/HVRT studies, harmonics) for wind farms.

Etienne also has substation and wind farm collector detailed design experience with a particular emphasis on primary plant design, including substation earthmat designs using the CDEGS simulation software[r1] . Etienne has also performed wind farm collector designs using CYMCAP cable simulation software. Etienne has worked on projects in South Africa, Lesotho, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Australia, Mexico, and Scotland.

Craig is based in the TNEI Manchester office, and has also joined TNEI as a Senior Consultant. Working as a Power Systems Engineer, Craig has conducted research into using advanced control methods to better utilise the reactive power capabilities of wind turbines. Craig currently focuses on power system studies, which include P28 (voltage fluctuation) and G5/4 (harmonics) compliance, along with earthing design and assessment. His key areas of expertise include Earthing design and assessment, power system studies, grid code compliance and grid connections.

Before he joined the industry, Craig obtained his MEng, and undertook three years of PhD research into wind energy and wind turbine control. He has vast knowledge of the areas of wind and solar energy, along with their integration in the grid, along with power system stability and modeling. Since 2013, Craig has worked for TriConnex, HVMS and Amec Foster Wheeler.

Craig has undertaken in-depth research into wind energy and wind turbine control. He has vast knowledge of the areas of wind and solar energy and their integration into the grid. He also has specialist power system stability and modelling experience. Craig has previously worked for TriConnex, HVMS and Amec Foster Wheeler.

Rachel Hodges, TNEI’s Manager Director commented: “We have seen an increase in demand for earthing and lightning protection services in recent years. We are delighted to welcome Etienne and Craig who add valuable skills and international experience to our existing team.”

These two appointments further enhance TNEI‘s ability to meet the needs of clients in challenging markets, providing greater breadth of services, with the earthing and lightning protection team growing across TNEI’s offices. In collaboration with our wider team of specialist power systems consultants, TNEI can provide coordinated and comprehensive electrical engineering solutions to meet the requirements of a project.
