TNEI’s noise consultants have undertaken noise assessments for more than 160 wind farms at various stages of development, from initial site design through to operational compliance monitoring, supporting projects totalling over 3.5GW. Our Expert Witnesses have given evidence at more than 30 Public Inquires and have provided advice on schemes in the UK and Western Europe.
TNEI was commissioned to co-ordinate an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for a proposed wind farm in Leicestershire, UK and manage the submission of a planning application. As part of the EIA work, TNEI’s noise team undertook an assessment in accordance with ETSU-R-97, The Assessment and Rating of Noise from Wind Farms. A full planning application was submitted to the Local Planning Authority.
In light of delays by the council in dealing with the application, the client lodged an appeal for non determination. At the Public Inquiry, TNEI provided Expert Witness services in relation to noise. All noise issues were resolved to the satisfaction of the Inspector and the appeal was allowed. TNEI has subsequently provided further guidance on the final choice of turbine in relation to noise; the four turbine scheme has now been constructed and exports electricity to the grid.
